Public consultation

The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) has established and implemented several mechanisms for public participation. They are designed to involve the community in:

  • the development of legislation, policies and guidelines
  • the review of environment protection licences
  • conservation plans
  • wilderness declarations
  • conservation agreements with a statutory authority or another minister
  • Ministerial Taskforce on Tourism and National Parks in NSW .

Development of legislation, policies and guidelines

Have your say on proposed legislation, policies and guidelines. You can also visit the consultation archive to see previous community consultations.

Review of environment protection licences

The Environment Protection Authority issues environment protection licences under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. The community has the opportunity to contribute to the process of reviewing the conditions contained in the licences.

Conservation plans

Community involvement in conservation is vital. OEH invites wide public comment on draft conservation plans and reports -  including draft plans of management for national parks, listings of endangered and vulnerable species, and more.

Declaring wilderness

Reports identifying areas for possible listing as wilderness in New South Wales are placed on public exhibition. OEH provides advice on the identified area and issues raised during the public consultation period to the Minister for the Environment.

Conservation agreements with a statutory authority or another minister

The community is invited to comment on conservation agreements between the Minister for Environment and a statutory authority or another Minister.
