Teachers' kit - What is a national park?
April 2003
This award-winning teacher's kit includes:
- comprehensive unit of work (12 lesson plans, outcomes and indicators, teacher's notes, student fact sheets)
- student work sheets
- colour cartoon poster 'What is a national park?' (see preview to right of page)
- six colour photographic posters of national parks in NSW

The teacher's kit has been written to help you teach about the values of our natural and cultural heritage. Students will learn about national parks, flora and fauna, management of natural areas, workers in national parks, historic and Aboriginal sites.
This unit expands upon the HSIE sample unit 'State and National Parks' from the HSIE syllabus support document. It also contributes to achieving the objectives of the NSW Environmental Education Policy for Schools.
The teacher's kit was developed by the NPWS in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education and Training. It won the Energy Australia National Trust NSW Heritage Award 2004 for Education in the Corporate/Government category.
