Under its legislation, the Trust is required to provide minimum annual allocations for grants programs in the following areas:

  • Environmental Restoration and Rehabilitation Program for community organisations – $1 million
  • Environmental Education Program for community organisations – $500,000
  • Environmental Research Program for community organisations, universities and research institutes – $500,000.

The Trust did not offer new research grants in 2002–03 because it had previously awarded grants in a program with a total value of over $1.5 million. This utilised the $0.5 million per year statutory allocation for the years 2000–01, 2001–02 and 2002–03.
