Marine and coastal research and monitoring

The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) undertakes marine and coastal research and monitoring to better understand the underwater environment, and the impacts of land use in coastal catchments on estuaries and coastal lakes. This work is crucial to allow us to protect and manage NSW marine environments.

The organisation operates a range of vessels including the RV Bombora which is a purpose-built nearshore marine research vessel.

OEH, the Integrated Ocean Observation System (IMOS) and the Oceans Policy Scientific Advisory Group (OPSAG) hosted a workshop in August 2010 to discuss a new, national approach to marine coastal observation. For more information about the workshop,  visit National Coastal Observation.
