Organics Infrastructure (large and small) grants program

The Organics Infrastructure (large and small) grants program is now open to applications.  Applications close 5pm, Thursday 10 August 2017.

Aim of the program

With the extension of Waste Less Recycle More until 2020-21, the Organics Infrastructure (large and small) grants program has now become a nine-year program worth $55.67 million. It will continue to provide funding for infrastructure and equipment to reduce food and garden organic waste going to landfill, and to increase organics processing capacity to meet proposed new recycling targets of 75% by 2021. Under the Waste Less Recycle More Extension, the Home Composting Stream has been replaced by the Product Quality Stream. Through four previous funding rounds, a total of $39.97 million has been allocated to 69 projects*.

* Some successful applicants to previous funding rounds may have decided to decline the grant offer as they were no longer able to proceed with the project.

The program is aimed at supporting three streams as detailed below:

StreamDetail

1

Organics processing infrastructure

The establishment of new and enhanced infrastructure to process food, garden or combined food and garden organics from households and/or businesses. The stream supports organisations processing organics generated by others.

2 Business organics recycling

This stream supports on-site processing or pre-processing of organics, or implementing on-site organics management measures, and are by organisations whose core business activity is not organics recycling.

Note:  Funding under this stream will not be available in 2017.

3

Food donation

Infrastructure to facilitate the collection and redistribution of food waste from businesses to people in need.

4

Product quality (new funding stream)

Infrastructure to improve the quality and consistency of organics outputs above regulatory requirements and leading to robust markets for recycled organics, such as decontamination equipment.

Previously, this stream was for Home composting

Compost bins and/or worm farms to enhance council organics waste management workshops and home compositing programs.

Note: Funding under this old stream 4 is no longer available.

This program is being delivered through a partnership between the NSW Environmental Trust and EPA under the Waste Less, Recycle More Organics Infrastructure fund. Additional information can be found on the EPA website.
