History

The wooden schooner Ada and Ethel sank at about 8pm on 26 October 1887 ten miles south east of Seal Rocks. Springing a leak under the command of Frederick Cooper, the crew escaped and were reported safe by telegram sent from the captain.

The vessel was built in 1886 at Eagleton on the Williams River and registered in Sydney. Owned by Edward Davies and Charles Frederick Missell of Pyrmont, the trader had a length of 25 metres long and weighed 73 tons.

Comments: The Ada and Ethel is reported elsewhere as being lost on the 22 and 27 October. The Sydney Morning Herald of 28 October refers to a telegram dated 27 October and in which the loss is recorded as occurring at about 8pm the previous night, ie 26 October.
