History

The 1239 ton steel barquentine Adderley wrecked on Stockton Beach on 23 April 1897. Having departed Fremantle on 23rd April, Adderley was headed towards Newcastle to load coal for Western Australia. A strong gale drove the vessel ashore on Stockton beach, three miles south of Morna Point, at night.  Captain Llewllyn Grove, master, and the crew and 19 men, survived.

The vessel, owned by C W Kellock & Co was later successfully refloated after several attempts. Built in 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland, by J Teid & Co. Adderley was registered in Liverpool and used for coastal transport.
