The Agnes was a carvel-constructed wooden schooner of 80 gross tons and 23.62 metres in length. She was built at the Brisbane Water port in Gosford, New South Wales, by Edward Davis in 1875. The vessel was owned by Sydney timber merchant, Alex Kethel, and her primary function was the transport of cargo along the coast. While sailing from Sydney to Tweed River, the Agnes was caught in a severe gale storm and lost her sails, eventually wrecking six miles north of Brunswick River Heads on 12 March 1890. None of her eight-member crew survived.
