Monday 21 October: National park closures due to emergency fire conditions

Due to the current fire emergency, all national parks have been closed across the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area today (21 October).

In accordance with park closures, remote campgrounds in Royal National Park (Nth Era Campground, Uloola Falls Campground) and all sites in Heathcote National Park are closed. Campgrounds at Bents Basin State Conservation Area and Cattai National Park will also be closed.

In Sydney’s north, the following roads will be closed until further notice:

  • North Head Scenic Drive will be closed from the roundabout at the Q Station – (however access to Q Station will be open).
  • West Head Road, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park

In Sydney’s south, the following roads will be closed until further notice:

  • Cape Banks Road, Kamay Botany Bay National Park
  • Garie Beach Road, Royal National Park
  • Wattamolla Road., Royal National Park

Some areas to remain open

Some commercial precincts will remain open. These include:

  • Audley Boatshed and Audley Café in Royal National Park
  • Bonnie Vale Campground in Royal National Park
  • Bobbin Head in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Akuna Bay Marina in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Basin Camping Area in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Davidson Boat Ramp in Garigal National Park
  • Q Station, Manly in Sydney Harbour National Park
  • Bradleys Head in Sydney Harbour National Park
  • Nielsen Park Kiosk, Vaucluse in Sydney Harbour National Park
  • Fort Denison and Sydney Harbour Islands,
  • La Perouse Headland in Kamay Botany Bay National Park
  • Lane Cove Weir Precinct in Lane Cove National Park
  • Lane Cove Caravan Park in Lane Cove National Park

All visitors to the above precincts are reminded that the NSW Fire Commissioner has declared a Total Fire Ban until further notice and in accordance with the Rural Fires Act all forms of cooking and bbq’s other than those provided by National Parks are not permitted. The following roads will remain open:

  • Farnell Ave, Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, Maianbar Rd, Bundeena Drive, Lady Wakehurst Drive and McKell Ave in the Royal National Park
  • McCars Creek Road, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Bobbin Head Road, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Liberator General San Martin Drive , Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Cottage Point Road, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
  • Chowder Bay Road, Sydney Harbour National Park

National Parks apologises to park visitors for this inconvenience; however these closures are necessary to ensure public safety whilst the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service deploys all available fire-fighters to assist the Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire and Rescue in combating the fire emergency situation across the Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands.
