Energy and climate change research

Our science and modelling help us understand the impacts of climate change and how we can reach net zero emissions.

Our climate scientists and researchers develop world-class modelling and data. Their work supports:

  • our understanding of different scenarios under climate change and greenhouse gas emissions
  • dedicated policies and programs that help the New South Wales community adapt and become resilient to a changing climate.

Net zero emissions

The NSW Net Zero Plan Stage 1: 2020–2030 is the NSW Government’s plan to reduce emissions by 50% below 2005 levels, over the next decade.

Our scientists model real and projected emissions to understand how we can transition to net zero by 2050. This work helps ensure our policies and programs are effective, equitable and sustainable.

Climate research

Climate change is already occurring and is causing changes in temperature and rainfall across the globe. In New South Wales average temperatures have risen steadily since the 1960s. Our dedicated climate science research programs help industry, government, business and communities understand and adapt to our changing climate.
