Volunteers, commercial organisations and the National Parks and Wildlife Service staff make valuable contributions to our knowledge about marine wildlife.

We currently license various volunteer groups and a small number of facilities and individuals as wildlife rehabilitation providers. Together, they service nearly all of New South Wales.

Licensed wildlife rehabilitation providers must ensure that the welfare needs of injured and sick protected animals are met, so the conservation benefits from their rehabilitation and release are optimised.
