Investigating fabric of heritage

What can the walls tell us?

Heritage places tell us stories about our past and cultural heritage. In fact, the place itself is like a three-dimensional "document" - a source of information in bricks and mortar! Learning to read a building or place is an important skill as it provides an accurate record of what actually happened. Sometimes the fabric of a place can tell us information that is not found in other sources.

For more information on how to investigate the fabric of an item, download the guideline from the NSW Heritage Manual Investigating fabric (hminvestigating.pdf, 2.3MB).
