A number of processes have been applied to the surface of the initial casting that have removed the blackened colouring and the rough edges, and in this picture the surface is being polished in preparation for painting. Notice the variety of finishing-off applications sitting on the surface of the casting, and the general tidiness of the area around the casting to ensure that the surface is not scratched or otherwise marked.
