The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning a hazard reduction burn in Bermagui Flora Reserve (located inside the Murrah Flora Reserves) off Nutley’s Creek Road on Thursday 13 March, weather permitting.

The hazard reduction burn intends to treat approximately 4-hectares of bushland off Nutley’s Creek Road, southwest of Bermagui.

The planned burn will help to improve protection for nearby properties as well as the Bermagui community in the event of future bushfires.

Planned low to moderate intensity burns also aim to improve the park’s biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.

Traffic control will be in place on Nutley’s Creek Road and Black Marlin Drive for the duration of the burns. Smoke warning and burn in progress signs will also be in place.

For their safety, the public should not enter this area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.

Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas, including the township of Bermagui.

Motorists should use caution when driving on Nutleys Creek Road and Tathra Bermagui Road.

People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
