Hazard reduction burn for Dharawal National Park in Wollondilly area 11 April 2025
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning a hazard reduction burn in Dharawal National Park off Lysaght Road on Friday 11 April, weather permitting.
The hazard reduction burn is intended to treat approximately 8 hectares of bushland off Lysaght Road, Wedderburn.
The planned burn will help to improve protection for nearby properties as well as the Wedderburn community in the event of future bushfires. Planned low to moderate intensity burns also aim to improve the park’s biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.
The walking tracks to Minerva Pool will be closed.
For their safety, the public should not enter this area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check the NPWS Alerts page for up-to-date information on closures.
Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas.
Motorists, including those accessing Napper Airfield should use caution when driving on Lysaght and Blackburn Roads.
People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air-quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
