With school holidays kicking off, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has all your holiday fun covered at a number of our pristine parks on the South Coast.

This school holidays, NPWS is offering activities for all ages, from becoming an NPWS ranger for the day, spotting seals and whales at Narooma, to exploring Merimbula Lake’s coastline and learning traditional Aboriginal weaving.

  1. Traditional weaving workshops

Spend the day with an Aboriginal NPWS guide and learn how to use ancient techniques to weave items with grasses, reeds and natural materials.

Then weave your own souvenir to take home with you. Your guide will share how Aboriginal women weave baskets, carry bags and other items for daily use.

These workshops are available at Killalea Regional Park, Eurobodalla National Park and Bournda National Park.

  2. Narooma seals and whales discovery tour

Join this family-friendly guided tour at Narooma Bar Rocks to see Australian and New Zealand Fur Seals in the wild.

Watch as they navigate the ocean and coastline with ease, while learning how these amazing animals survive extreme temperatures, travel great distances and avoid predators.

  3. Junior ranger programs

Imagine your child wearing a set of flashy green pants and an Akubra to work each day! They could be destined for a career as one of our incredible NPWS rangers.

Our Junior Ranger days are non-stop adventure, jam packed with fun activities set to teach kids (and adults alike!) new skills as well as educating on the importance of our native flora and fauna.

Junior Ranger days are available at Broulee Island in Broulee Nature Reserve, Bungo Beach near Eden, Eurobodalla National Park and Minnamurra Rainforest in Budderoo National Park, with each day offering a unique experience.

  4. Merimbula Lake boardwalk adventure

Head over to Merimbula Lake Boardwalk near Bournda National Park for fun in the wetlands! Explore the estuaries (where the river meets the sea) and get up-close to the small creatures that call this environment home.

After joining your NPWS guide, venture along the boardwalk and onto the sand to explore a complex mangrove ecosystem teeming with life!

"While it may be the school holidays, adults can also join the fun. South Coast national parks are jam packed with activities for both kids and adults.

“From Wollongong to Eden, NPWS is filled with passionate and knowledgeable rangers who can’t wait to share their knowledge with the next generation of potential parkies.

"Make sure to visit the NPWS website and see all the incredible activities on offer these school holidays and book early as these experiences often book out in advance.”
