Planned hazard reduction burn at Shoalhaven Heads
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service (RFS) is planning a 13-hectare hazard reduction burn, just north of Shoalhaven Heads on Thursday 12 June.
The planned burn, within Seven Mile Beach National Park, will impact Gerroa Road and Bolong Road and traffic control will be in place for the duration of the operation.
Smoke may also impact surrounding roads and be visible from town, depending on wind direction.
This hazard reduction burn will help to protect Shoalhaven Head’s homes and business from any future wildfires by reducing the naturally accumulated fuel load in the park. The burn will also help to maintain the diversity of plant life and protect important wildlife habitat.
NPWS thanks neighbours in advance for their understanding.
People with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory issues are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors.
All planned burns will continue to be coordinated with the RFS to ensure the impacts on the community, including from smoke, are assessed at a regional level.
Details on specific burns are made available in advance at Rural Fire Service, the Hazards Near Me app, and NPWS Alerts.
