The reserve conserves 4 distinct forest ecosystems and over 60 native fauna species. Six threatened species have been located in or near the reserve. A recent addition to the reserve contains Church Cave, an important maternity site for the threatened bent-wing bat.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 requires that a plan of management be prepared for each nature reserve. A plan of management is a legal document that outlines how an area will be managed in the years ahead.
