The Newcastle Air Quality Monitoring Network Summer 2019-20 Seasonal Newsletter provides an overview of air quality in the region during the summer 2019-20 period (1 December 2019 to 29 February 2020).

The continued severe drought and unprecedented extensive bushfires during summer 2019–20 greatly impacted air quality in the Newcastle region, resulting in frequent poor air quality throughout the region.

Air quality indices, within national benchmarks, were in the good to fair categories 53% of the time at Stockton, 70% of the time at Beresfield and Newcastle, 76% at Mayfield and Wallsend and 79% at Carrington.
