Air quality in the Upper Hunter was greatly affected by the continuing intense drought conditions and unprecedented extensive bushfires during summer 2019–20, resulting in poorer air quality throughout the region. Muswellbrook and Singleton recorded very good to fair air quality indices within national benchmarks 60% and 71% of the time, respectively.
