Stream 2: Business Organics Recycling

This stream is currently closed to applications.


This is a $54 million program that provides funding through the following streams:

  1. Organics Processing Infrastructure
  2. Business Organics Recycling (this page)
  3. Food Donation
  4. Product Quality
  5. Home Composting which is no longer being offered.

This stream supports businesses whose core activities do not include organics recycling, to tackle their waste on-site through implementing organics management measures and installing processing or pre-processing equipment. 

This program is being delivered through a partnership between the NSW Environmental Trust and the Environment Protection Authority under Waste Less, Recycle More. Additional information can be found on the EPA website.


Grants were available for costs relating to onsite processing equipment as follows:

  • Grants of between $75,000 and $500,000 were available to cover up to 50 per cent of costs to businesses and local councils.
  • Grants of between $135,000 and $500,000 were available to cover up to 90 per cent of costs to not-for-profit organisations and government institutions.

Who can apply?

Organisations were available to:

  • Businesses and private industry.
  • Local government controlled organisations (or deemed to have the same local government function).
  • Not-for-profit organisations (must comply with the ATO's definition) with an established legal status, or without a legal status but is being administered by another organisation.
  • Universities, prisons, TAFEs and other government institutions.

The reporting templates for grantees are provided below (a quick link is also available on the right-hand column of this web page). Grantees should refer to their Deed of Agreement for documents and evidence to be submitted in addition to the documents below.

Project Measures Captures projected and achieved quantitative data for your project. The same report should be built on and submitted for each milestone.
Milestone Report Communicates your project’s progress and achievements at set agreed milestones during the project.
Final Report Communicates your project’s final achievements on project completion.
Statement of Expenditure Reports on expenditure to date for each milestone and final report. The Statement of Expenditure should be built on for each milestone and the final report.
