Road upgrades in Kosciuszko National Park
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is advising the Snowy Mountains community, as well as visitors to Kosciuszko National Park, to expect traffic delays and diversions on Guthega Road until mid-2025.
Road works will be carried out to repair the damage caused by extensive rain events in 2022 and 2023. Work will include slope stabilisation, upgrades to more than 100 culverts and resealing to make the road more resilient to future weather events.
Cleaning of culverts and the area around them will commence on Thursday 10 October 2024, weather permitting. This is expected to have minimal impact on the local community.
More extensive works will commence in the coming months and are likely to cause intermittent traffic delays in the area until mid-2025. Completion dates are subject to weather and operational constraints.
These works have been planned to occur outside peak visitation times.
NPWS will continue to liaise with nearby residents, businesses and lodges to minimise the impact.
Guthega Road is a vital piece of infrastructure within Kosciuszko National Park providing access to Munyang Power Station and popular visitor sites such as Island Bend camping ground and Guthega Resort.
Those visiting Kosciuszko National Park during this period should check the NPWS website to stay up to date on road closures: national park alerts.
