The public exhibition for the draft amendment has now closed.
The draft amendment proposed changes to the Sydney Harbour National Park plan of management to develop an environmental education centre at Middle Head-Gubbuh Gubbuh. The environmental education centre proposal included the adaptive reuse of the Soldier's Institute and the development of a new covered outdoor learning area with toilets and storage facilities.
After carefully assessing the proposal and considering community feedback on the Schools Infrastructure NSW concepts, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will not be proceeding with the proposed amendment to the Sydney Harbour National Park plan of management.
Establishing an environmental education centre has been an appropriate and beneficial initiative in some national parks. However, in this circumstance, it has been concluded that it is not a suitable facility for this location.
